Journal Contents Alerting Service

RSS Feed image
Most of the major journal publishers now provide ‘feeds’ for their publications. The logo above (or similar) on a journal’s web page will indicate an alerting service is available.

Immediately an issue goes ‘live’ on its website this service can provide you with the full table of contents of that issue, all the abstracts and bibliographic details, plus links to the full texts.

Thus you can ‘pull’ the exact information you want directly and instantly to your computer (‘feeds’, not emails) rather than the publisher ‘pushing’ what information they choose via an email alerting service. You are in charge of choosing the precise information you want, and can turn its delivery ‘on’ or ‘off’ as and when you wish – all without cluttering your email inbox.

How do I get a feed?
All the major web browsers now support such feeds (sometimes called RSS feeds), with only a few clicks needed to complete the process. For example, if using the latest version of MS Internet Explorer (v7) you should click the logo displayed on the relevant web page then follow the simple instructions. Thereafter, the alerts will appear regularly within the ‘Feeds’ tab to the right of your ‘Favorites’ list.
